Research interests:
I am focusing on soil organic and pyrogenic carbon in soils and its role in the global carbon cycle. My research includes soils in agricultural systems and natural ecosystems in temperate, boreal and tropical regions. I am working on a wide range from fieldwork at landscape scale to laboratory experiments at small process and mechanism scale. I am also interested in the interactions within the soil-plant system and factors that control the complex biogeochemical processes in soils.
Beside process understanding, I focus of land-use changes and how soils can be managed in climate-smart and sustainable ways to address future challenges.
Current position:
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture where I work in the team of the German Agricultural Soil Inventory.
Background:
I received my Dr. sc. nat. at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, at the department of Geography in 2023. I worked on pyrogenic carbon in soils with a focus on permafrost systems of northern Canada in the group Organic Matter in the Plant Soil System led by Samuel Abiven. I have a Master of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Science in Geoecology from the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany.
